Congratulations to long time Pure Movement client Shannyn Boyd for completing her first novice kickboxing fight at Capital Punishment 38 on the 20th May 2017!
Shannyn Boyd, fighting out of Octagon Combat Center under the tutelage of Gavin Johnston, fought courageously against Shaun Jones from MTI Wellington.
Being a novice bout, the contestants both wore shin guards, had large 16 oz gloves and had a few additional rules to adhere to for safety. This, however, did not stop the action! Shannyn and Shaun went toe to toe for 3 x 1.5 minute rounds, leaving their heart and soul on the canvas, both coming away with bruises and a medal.
Shannyn has been passionate about kickboxing for over a decade but has only found the desire to compete over the past year. Fitness turned into ferociousness on Saturday, leaving her with the desire for more bouts in the near future!
Shannyn’s Pure Movement regime consisted of a revolving bi-monthly cycle of strength, power, and blends of both. This has left her max Deadlift at 140Kg, Squat at 115Kg, Bench Press at 65Kg, Clean and Jerk at 65Kg and Snatch at 40Kg (all unassisted). The last 2 weeks of Shannyn’s fight prep were solely speed focused. A lot of Heavy / Light contrast sets were used, alongside a mountain of burpees.
Bring on her next fight!
